Thoughts on Ernie Todd and MORE!

I'll try not to let this posting get too long, however it has been quite some time so you never know. I will get to the Ernie Todd situation and address the statements he made on his website as well as the statements he made about the fans but I'll hit a couple of other topics first.

I was surprised the Winnipeg Blue Bombers fired Doug Berry. But listening to Lyle Bauer, I have come to believe it was likely for the best. The Bombers are a good team with some great players. By no means should we be considering a "rebuilding" phase and I am sure the team isn't.

On the subject of Kevin Glenn, I read a line in the Sun that sums it up perfectly - "Kevin Glenn is just good enough to lose the game". When he's "on", he's an elite QB in the CFL, but he is rarely on. He shows very little "fire" or leadership during a game, gets clearly frustrated and is made of glass. The team shows far more fire when Ryan Dinwiddie goes in. RD also earned a lot of respect for his performance near the end of the season (against the Als, I believe) when he could barely walk but continued to play (and rush). He's a good player who deserves a chance.

I always liked Glenn and believed in him, but he's had a lot of years to become elite and he hasnt dont it. I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I'd go after Casey Printers. As far as a new head coach, it seems Bauer has his heart set on Mike Kelly and I won't argue with that. I remember when Jeff Rhinebold was hired and Kelly was banished. On the other hand, most people consider Greg Marshall a head coach in waiting. It would suck to lose him but there are only two head coaching positions open so if he doesn't coach Toronto, he'll have to be a coordinator anyway.

If I recall correctly, RME has a show this weekend, their much hyped return to Winnipeg. There is virtually nothing on their website about it and I haven't head a thing about whether it's still happening or not. You'd think with the show in two days and it being their big "return", they'd announce a match or two.

In a related note, our awesome website has changed our website slightly to allow for speedier updates. As a result, there will be more news articles and such. I would be interested to hear what kind of stories or features you'd like to see (I am considering a "Where Are They Now" type article).

Now, for the topic at hand. Ernie Todd. I could write a lot on this subject but I reserve that for a later date. What I will say, however, is that I was appalled when Ernie insulted and criticised the fans who attended his event at Wise Guys. I know it's a frustrating thing when the fans are critical or when the show is not as good as you hope, but we've all had bad shows. I hate criticism too, but I try to use it as a learning tool.

There has been some talk that I asked Ernie to "shoot" on the fans. Only an idiot would actually believe that. I NEVER asked Ernie to shoot on the fans. In fact, I emailed him after he did so to express my disappointment. I truly believe Ernie could have earned some respect if he had simply apologized for his comments rather than look for excuses.

As far as our "deal" goes, I made a commitment and I intend to honour it. I intend for Ernie to honour his end of the deal as well. If he doesn't, then I am sure my next blog will be far more entertaining.

Some questions were asked in the comments of my last posting. I apologize for not getting to them sooner:

Moses Luke, Bobby Fox and Brian Rich all work for SPW and RME. Why were they on the CWF show? I thought there was an alliance against them (meaning SPW and RME)?

The suggestion that there is an alliance against anyone is a complete myth that others have spread in an effort to manufacture loyalty towards their own interests.

Who exactly is on the CWF roster from the show on Tuesday?

As a travelling promotion, it is difficult for the CWF to maintain a regular local roster. Ernie wanted to ensure that if he ran shows in Winnipeg, he would be able to use the best available performers in this market, thus his "deal" with PCW.

What has Ernie to say about the fan comments on your website?

Ernie hasn't said too much to me about it aside from his public stance. I know he has suggested that I asked him to "heel" on the fans which, ofcourse, is ludicrous. He felt his comments generated "old school" heat, which I disagreed with.

If he hasn't seen them, why haven't you emailed them to him?

Ernie is well aware of the comments and opinions of the fans.

What will the two of you do to provide a better show to us (your respective paying fan base)?

I was disappointed in our last couple of shows and made a stronger effort to map out our direction moving forward. I believe Seasons Beatings will be a fantastic event.

Thanks!

A

Ernie Todd should slink away from the local wrestling altogether no one cares and now that he has insulted the true winnipeg local fans...he will have no one and to blame it on PCW is even worse especially when said fans are die hard PCW fans...

when will people realize?

you think watching Mike Davidson fail over and over would get it through promotors minds!

Don't keep us in suspense. What did you think of RME's day of wreckoning?

PCW said...

I could not convince anyone I knew to make the trip down to the RME show so it would not be fair of me to comment.

I did speak to people involved (directly or indirectly) and I heard the crew was not happy and the draw was disappointing. People get too caught up in draw and dont look at the big picture, but that's a topic for another time. It seems they did shake up their main event which is a good thing.

I also heard Mo took a very stiff knee and was fucked up. I hope he is doing well.

My curiosity goes more to the BSB's who, according to the RME website, are weighing in at over 1100 lbs. I haven't seen them for awhile, but I can't imagine that to be true! lol

I think it was less a day of wreckoning as it was a day of confirmation.

More like Day of the Dead as in crowd heat lol

Wrecking (wrestling) Day?? Anyone? No? Ok. Seriously it sounds like they have a couple of better guys but no one for them to wrestle against.

Wretching Day?

I like the where are they now idea. There's a bunch of guys I remember from the old days and wondered what they're up to. Maybe a ratings list or something too.

Watch out for RME in 2009. They have some big plans.

While I have been very critical of PCW's booking in the past, I have to admit, RME doesnt seem to know what the hell their doing. The belts always revolve around Collins, the Sharp Dressed men aka Collins and ?, and Moses Luke.
They always do the same set of matches where Moses will wrestle someone then have a 6 man main event. Half of the guys on their roster dont even appear anymore, Gene Swan is one for example.
They get a new crop of talented guys from time to time but as soon as they see how shitty things are, they fuck off fast!

Now hopefully Andrew has learned from his mistake of dealing with Ernie Todd, and puts on a good show. The last 2 havent really sit well with me and I am strongly considering making this show on the 11th my last if things dont turn around.

this is also a make or break for me as well.

Not for me. The last show was fuckin awesome. but if PCW sucks then I won't quit watching PCW, I'll quit watching wrestling totally. I hope they announce some more matches soon and it sucks that Mike Angels probably won't be there. Will Kenny be there?

PCW said...

Kenny is booked for this show, yes.

A couple of news updates were added today and more to come in the next few days.

You won't be disappointed on Dec. 11th.

I dont know what people are talking about the last 2 shows didnt suck, the last one was great! There was blod on Royce thats always a good time when you see blod. THere was a street fight and the match was all over the fucking place. Jon Cutler made an appearance. Darren the fucking bomb Dalton coming back, good times, especially since i bet no one in the whole fucking place knew that the grim reaper drinnking the beers behind them was really The Bomb! I think there are a few people in this city that need to sit back and realize that this isnt WWE... its INDY wrestling, there will be some fuck ups but seriously as long as they are putting it all out there and giving it there all can you ask for more? Thanks for listening...

Good point. Plus pcw is head and sholders above all the other wrestling here. It's not even close. A bad pcw show is ten times better then a good show from any one else.

rme and spw run more shows than pcw

Anonymous said...

Just because RME and SPW run more shows doesnt mean that its any good, dont get me wrong i did enjoy a SPW show that i did attend.

Anonymous said...

The only people who think a lot of shows is more important than good shows are the people who run a lot of bad shows. lol

I couldnt have said it better myself.. just saying...

The other sharp dressed man is damon marx I think

Anonymous said...

why can't we all just get along

why can't the promotors take the dicks out of their asses and join together to make the best possible show for all involved?

PCW said...

Because all the promoters have different ideas of what makes a good show or have different reasons for being in the business. There are guys who just want to hang around the boys and the business, have fun with their friends, try to blackball other promoters and boys etc.

If all the promoters booked the best 20 guys, there would be 50 guys out of work...but they wouldn't be out of work - they'd start their own promotion.

Their was an influx of promotions and rings a few years ago which led to the problems we have now. It's a simple solution but it would require some guys to swallow their ego's and put the business first. That won't happen.

Anonymous said...

truth is you have a broken down ring with a crew that does not have a lot of options no one wants to book knight

Anonymous said...

Are you fuckin nuts? pcw guys work all over the world. if you mean locally who gives a fuck. if local promotions don't want pcw guys that says it all about those shitty promotions lol

spoken like a true jobber.. lol.. bitter.

hurd some pcw guys are joining rme

PCW said...

I'll touch on Vince Leah in my next blog.

No PCW talent has indicated to me they intend to take RME bookings so I cannot comment on what you "hurd".

I did, however, have a civil conversation with Angus at his show and look forward to more. I believe there may even be pictures of this historic promoters summit floating around...
